UDF candidate Aryadan leading by 419 votes in first round

Malappuram, June 23 (UNI) Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath was leading with a margin of 419 votes against CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate M Swaraj in the Nilambur Assembly by-election at the end of the first round counting held at Chungathara Marthoma HSS on Monday.
UDF secured 3614 votes, LDF 3195, independent candidate and former Nilambur MLA P V Anvar 1588 and BJP-led NDA candidate Mohan George 400 votes each.
The Nilambur assembly by-election held on June 19 recorded a voter turnout of 75.27 per cent. Out of a total of 2,32,057 voters, 1,74,667 people reached the polling booth and exercised their right to vote. Out of 113,299 male voters, 81,007; out of 1,18,750 female voters, 93,658 and two out of eight transgenders exercised their right to vote.

85 lakh tonnes of garbage will be removed by October 2 in AP: Minister Narayana

Anantapur, July 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana has announced that the government aims to clear over 85 lakh tonnes of garbage by October 2, of which 55 lakh tonnes of garbage has already been removed so far.
The Municipal Administration Minister, flanked by MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad, District Collector Vinod Kumar, unveiled the plaques for various development works including garbage processing unit and the construction of road drainage canals, on Friday.
