Rock band King Crimson vocalist-guitarist Jakko M Jakszyk announces ninth solo album

London, Apr 25 (UNI) King Crimson vocalist and guitarist Jakko M. Jakszyk's ninth solo album, ‘Son of Glen’, will be released on June 27, the rock veteran has announced while sharing his latest single, the album's ten-minute title track.
The talismanic Jakszyk from the legendary English progressive rock band said that the album is a follow-up to his 2020 album ‘Secrets & Lies’. It also serves as a companion piece to Jakszyk's acclaimed autobiography, ‘Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair?’, which was released last year through Kingmaker Publishing.
The upcoming album is named after Jakszyk's real father, according to Louder Sound.
Jakszyk’s solo work picks up from his tenure in King Crimson, and follows the band’s eclectic and experimental sound, which pioneered progressive rock.
Talking about the album, he said, “A romantic fantasy narrative based on what I discovered about my real father after decades of fruitless searching for him".
He added, “Glen Tripp was a US airman based in the UK who fell for a dark-haired Irish singer. And here I was, many, many years later, repeating what he had done by falling for another. What if he had been watching me and guiding me from ‘afar’?”
‘Son Of Glen’ features appearances by drummers Gavin Harrison (King Crimson/Porcupine Tree) and Ian Mosley (Marillion), cellist Caroline Lavelle, Louise Patricia Crane on vocals and Jakko’s son Django on bass guitar.
The new album will be available as a limited CD digipak, gatefold LP and as a digital album.
While King Crimson did not achieve the same level of success as their peers such as Pink Floyd, Rush, Genesis, their role in the history of rock cannot be overstated. The band’s legendary ‘In The Court of the Crimson King’ from 1969 saw them merge unconventional song structures with unorthodox instrumentation, and even helped in the development of heavy metal through their use of down-tuned guitars and heavy distortion.
In addition, the band utilised improvisation techniques in songwriting, merging diverse influences such as jazz, blues, acid rock, psychedelia, folk, hard rock, heavy metal, and later even using industrial and techno elements.
The band inspired various other legends from various scenes such as Iron Maiden, Rush, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Dream Theater, Nirvana, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Melvins, and many others. UNI ANV SSP
