Kevin Spacy joins cast of ‘The Awakening’ as he rebuilds career following acquittal from lawsuit

Los Angeles, May 14 (UNI) Hollywood star Kevin Spacey has joined the cast of upcoming conspiracy action-thriller ‘The Awakening’, marking yet another role for the two-time Oscar winner, as he begins rebuilding his career after his acquittal from his 2017 sexual harassment lawsuit.

First announced in 2024, ‘The Awakening’ is directed by Matt Routledge and stars Peter Stormare (‘Fargo', ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’), Alice Eve (‘Star Trek Into Darkness', ‘Men in Black’), Steve Berkoff (‘Red 2', ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’), Julian Glover (‘Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade', ‘Game of Thrones’), Matt Hookings (‘Prizefighter’), former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall (‘Expendables 4’) and introduces Justin Tinto, according to Variety.

The movie follows Jason (Justin Tinto) and Rebecca (Eve) as they uncover a conspiracy to control the world. Their investigation leads them into a maze of secrets, making their quest to expose the truth in a thrilling race against time.

Currently in post-production, the screenplay is co-written by Tinto, Routledge and Matt Hookings, who is also producing it alongside Tim Kent, with executive producers including Tinto, Sally Woodward, Adrian Goodisman, and Pio Patatian.

Produced by Camelot Films, Hookings, CEO of Camelot Films, said: “’The Awakening’ has a strong message behind it that is extremely timely in our current society and everything that is going on in the world. Crossing over film lovers with conspiracy theorists has opened up a hybrid audience that I didn’t realise could exist.”

The film will be launched worldwide by Patatian’s Cloud9 studios.

In 2017, Kevin Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making a sexual advance toward him in 1986, when Rapp was 14. The claim sparked a wave of additional allegations from men, including crew from ‘House of Cards’, where Spacey was the lead, resulting in Netflix cutting ties with him.

Following this, he was removed from multiple projects. Rapp later filed a civil suit, which Spacey won in 2022.

Separately, in 2023, he stood trial in the UK for nine charges of sexual assault involving four men. Spacey denied the allegations and was acquitted on all counts.

However, the infamy surrounding the case has damaged the ‘The Usual Suspects’ actor’s career, and he has since then been gradually building his way back into the film industry with smaller indie projects and international films.
