Every perpetrator and supporter of Pahalgam terror attack must be hunted: LG Sinha to Army Chief

Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has asked Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who called on him here on Friday, to take effective steps not only to bring those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack to justice but also to intensify efforts to crush infrastructure of terrorism and its ecosystem.

The Army Chief arrived in Kashmir on Friday.


An official spokesman said during the discussion Lieutenant Governor said the nation has full faith in the bravery and valour of our army, police and central armed police forces (CAPFs) and they must work in close synergy to identify perpetrators, enablers and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Pahalgam terrorist killing and pursue the entire chain in a sustained manner and neutralise them.

“Every perpetrator and supporter of Pahalgam terror attack, whatever his location or affiliation, must be hunted and they must pay the heavy price for the cowardly and dastardly act against our citizens,” the Lieutenant Governor told the top army officials.


The meeting also reviewed security mechanisms in place, various short-term, long-term measures and integration and coordination among the various security agencies.

The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava.


Soon after Army Chief arrived, official sources Gen Dwivedi was briefed by the Army’s Srinagar based 15 Corps Commander on counter-terror operations in the wake of the Pahalgam attack that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead.



The Army Chief was also briefed on ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control.



Hours before the Army Chief’s arrival in Srinagar, there was an exchange of small arms fire along the Line of Control (LoC)in Nowgam sector in Kupwara district.



The Army Chief is also likely to visit Baisaran near Pahalgam- the site of the attack on tourists- and take the review of the ongoing operation that was launched on Tuesday to trace the attackers.
