Undertrial escapes from police custody, three cops booked, suspended

Amroha (UP), Sep 18 (UNI) An undertrial escaped from the police custody while being taken back to the jail from the court after which a case was lodged against three policemen and they were suspended on Monday, a police officer said here.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kunwar Anupam Singh said that an undertrial Wajid was to be produced in the court in Hasanpur in connection with a case. "While being brought back to the jail from the court Wajid jumped out of the prisoners van with handcuffs and escaped," he said.
Police sources said that a case has been lodged against head constable Sartaj Ali, constable Shubham Katyariya and van driver Jai Shankar Rai on charges of committing laxity and they have been suspended. "Eight cases, including that of theft, loot, Arms Act and attempt to murder are lodged against Wajid. He was arrested and sent to jail by Rahra police in connection with a theft case on July 9," they said.
