Flood alert sounded as water level in Kabini reservoir is fast reaching full level

Mysuru, Aug 4(UNI) Flood alerts have been sounded by the authorities as the water level in Kabini Reservoir, built across river Cauvery, is fast approaching full level due to heavy rain in catchment areas.
Official sources said that " the district administration has issued warning to people living along the Kabini river banks and in the low-lying areas to be careful as the dam authorities are releasing water from the reservoir as it is nearing its full capacity," Mysuru District Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Shankar said.
The water level of Kabini Reservoir reading 2279.21 ft against 2284 ft full level, with inflow of 15,000 cusecs,while outflow is 16000 cusecs, with heavy rains lashing out in the wayanad in Kerala, which is catchment areas of the Kapila river and expected more inflow. "With the rain continuing the dam will be full to its maximum capacity by Saturday. So the dam authorities have decided to release some water back into the river, according to Executive Engineer of Kabini said in a release issued here on Tuesday.
