Two Mizo bodies to jointly oppose Indo-Myanmar border fencing and FMR revocation

Aizawl, Feb 16 (UNI) The Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) and the Joint Hnampual Students’ Organisation (JHSO) Aizawl have pledged to stand together against the Indian government’s decision to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and its proposal to erect a fence along the Indo-Myanmar border, ZORO General Secretary L. Ramdinliana Renthlei said on Sunday.
Renthlei stated that both organizations strongly condemned the Centre’s move, asserting that it would severely impact the unity of ethnic Mizos residing across the India-Myanmar border. According to him, these actions would not only create further divisions among the Zofate (ethnic Mizos) but also threaten their cultural and historical integrity in the long run.
“The border fencing will not just separate the Mizos living on both sides but will also lead to the loss of large tracts of land, crucial livelihood sources, and farmlands where rice and vegetables are cultivated,” Renthlei said. He accused the Indian government of implementing policies that suppress the interests of indigenous Mizo communities under the guise of national security measures.
