Two devotees returning deom Pandharpur die on Pune Solapur Highway

Pune, July 7 ( UNI) A tragic road accident on the Pune-Solapur National Highway claimed the lives of a couple who were returning home after offering prayers in Pandharpur on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, police said today.
The deceased have been identified as Malhari Bajirao Pawar (57), who died on the spot, and his wife Pankhabai Malhari Pawar (50), who succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Both were residents of Yelpane Policewadi, Taluka Shrigonda, District Ahilyanagar, said police today.
Police said the couple, travelling back home on a two-wheeler after visiting Lord Vitthal in Pandharpur last evening, got crushed when a speeding unidentified tanker rammed into their bike from behind.The impact was so severe that Malhari Pawar died on the spot i while Pankhabai was critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, where she passed away.
