Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Twin encounters between militants and security forces are underway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, official sources said on Wednesday.
The first gun fight rages at village Drach on Tuesday night and the second erupted at Moolu in the same district of South Kashmir early Wednesday at a time when Home Minister Amit Shah is on a three day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Home Minister arrived in Srinagar after addressing a public rally at Rajouri last night and is scheduled to address another public meeting in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Police said the gun battles erupted during cordon and search operations in the areas following an input about the presence of militants.
"As the joint teams of forces cordoned the suspected spots, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering gun fights", a security official said.
Police and security forces are on the job, further details shall follow.
"Second encounter has started in Moolu area of Shopian district. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow", a J&K Police tweet said.
