Tripura taking steps to revive indigenous traditions: CM

Agartala, April 22 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said his government has been trying to revive the lost traditions, culture, and festivals in the state.
Addressing the indigenous Garia puja and Barsha Baran Utsav 2025, he said the tribal Welfare department has initiated steps to promote religious and cultural traditions of different communities.
“Just as Durga Puja, one of the main festivals for us Bengalis, Garia Puja is also the main festival of the Tripuri, Reang, and Kokborok-speaking people. To encourage wider celebration of Garia Puja, our government has declared a two-day public holiday to make it a everyone’s festival,” he said.
Every traditional dance of tribal here, Hojagiri dance, Mamita, Biju dance, Garia, Jum dance, Lebang Bumani, Wangala dance, Maskak, Gala dance, Chera dance, Rann dance, and Hoihuk dance, government took multiple actions to preserve and promote these, said the Chief Minister.
An amount of Rs 3 crore has been allocated for the development of tribal musical instruments. Apart from this, the state government is deeply committed to preserving the lost traditional culture, such as puppet dance, traditional sports and Jatrapala, Kirtan, the CM said.
