Telangana elections: Vote counting commences amidst stringent security measures

Hyderabad, Dec 3 (UNI) The eagerly-awaited counting of votes polled on November 30 for 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana commenced at 8 am on Sunday, under robust security measures.
There are a total of 49 counting centers, with 14 located in Hyderabad district, 4 in Ranaga Reddy district, and one in the headquarters of each of the other 31 districts.
All counting centers are equipped with a strong three-tier security system, which involves the deployment of around 40 companies of central armed police.
The initial 30 minutes of counting will focus on postal ballots, followed by the tabulation of votes in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The first result is anticipated by 10am, with all results likely to be announced by late afternoon.
A significant 71.34 percent of the 3 crore, 26 lakh voters exercised their franchise to elect 119 members.
The polling at Munugode in Nalgonda district recorded the highest turnout, with 91.89 percent, whereas Yakutpura in Hyderabad district had the lowest turnout at 39.64 percent.
A total of 2290 candidates are participating in the contest, which comprises 221 women and one transgender individual. Interestingly, contenders in this election include Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, TPCC President Revant Reddy, and Etala Rajendra from the BJP, all of whom are competing for seats in two constituencies.
