Lucknow, Jan 21 (UNI) Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the semifinal of the Syed Modi International tournament here on Friday.
Sindhu defeated Supanida Katethong of Thailand 11-21, 21-12, 21-17 in the quarterfinal.
Young shuttler Malvika Bansod registered a straight-sets win 21-11, 21-11 over compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap and stormed into the semifinal.
In the semifinals, Sindhu will face fifth seed Russian Evgeniya Kosetskaya, while Bansod will take on fellow Indian Anupama Upadhayay.
In the men's singles event, HS Prannoy went down against Frenchman Arnaud Merkle 19-21, 16-21 and bowed out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mithun Manjunath got the better of Russia's Sergey Sirant after losing the first set 11-21, 21-12, 21-17.
The women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated second seed Russian duo of Anastasiia Akchurina and Olga Morozova 24-22, 21-10 to seal their semifinal spot.
In the mixed doubles, Treesa Jolly and MR Arjun registered 24-22, 21-17 win over French pair of Anne Tran William Velleger.
Another mixed pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto defeated compatriots Ashith Surya and Pranjal Prabhu by 21-13, 21-19.
