Sri Lanka police cracks down on mobsters

Colombo, May 16 (UNI) The Sri Lanka Attorney General has ordered the Inspector General of Police to arrest former Minister Johnston Fernando, western province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, and twenty others over attacks on the protesters at the country’s capital, Colombo’s Galle Face and produce them in Courts on Tuesday morning.
Among others are former ruling party MPs - Milan Jayathilaka, Sanjeewa Edirimanna, Sanath Nishantha and Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando and Mahinda Kahandagamage. Sri Lanka saw violent clashes after government supporters attacked peaceful anti-government protest sites in Colombo and later it spread to the suburbs. These protests were precipitated by the dire economy crisis in the country and the tense political situation.
