Rybakina powers through to second round at rain-hit French Open

Rybakina powers through to second round at rain-hit French Open

Paris, May 28 (UNI) Persistent rain has once again disrupted play at Roland Garros, but Elena Rybakina remains unstoppable. The World No. 4 decisively defeated Greet Minnen 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the French Open.
Rybakina's strong performance dispelled any lingering concerns about her recent illness, which had forced her withdrawal from the Rome tournament and absence from last year's Roland Garros. Next, she could face Angelique Kerber, who plays Arantxa Rus, in a potentially open section of the draw.
Elsewhere, Elise Mertens is a likely fourth-round opponent for Rybakina. She faces Maria Lourdes Carle, while Petra Martic and Kiki Mladenovic await the outcome of the Belgian-Argentine match.
