Mullanpur, Apr 18 (UNI) In the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings have won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians at the Maharaj Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.
Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran confirmed that opener Shikhar Dhawan is still recovering from an injury, ruling him out of today's match.
In Dhawan's absence, Riley Russo has been drafted into the Punjab Kings squad. Meanwhile, Taide has been rested. Curran's update on Dhawan's injury status comes as a setback for Punjab Kings, but Russo's inclusion will be a boost to their batting lineup.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya expressed his preference to bat first after losing the toss and emphasised the significance of giving the best shot.
He acknowledged that despite having favorable conditions in previous matches, they fell short of securing victories. Pandya's remarks reflect Mumbai Indians' determination to turn the tables in today's encounter.
Maintaining consistency, Mumbai Indians have opted to retain their playing XI from the previous match, banking on their players' form and capabilities to deliver a strong performance against Punjab Kings
