One dies, 17 rescues as portion of a building catches fire

Lucknow, Jan 31 (UNI) One person was killed and more than 17 others were rescued safely when fire broke on the first floor of a complex in Badshahnagar area of the state capital Lucknow on Tuesday evening, a fire department officer said here.
Chief Fire Officer Mangesh Kumar said that in the SS complex located in the Badshahnagar area there is a bank on the ground floor along with a battery charging center and a gym on the third floor of the building. "Around 6 pm a battery exploded either due to overcharging or over-heating due to which the building was engulfed in smoke," he said.
He said that as the people present in the gym were trapped due to smoke, they were rescued by the fire fighters safely. "An employee of the charging center identified as Ashwini Kumar (35) was trapped as instead of coming out after the explosion, he ran inside the shop. He was eventually rescued and taken to the hospital where he died," he said.
