Melbourne, Jan 13 (UNI) World No 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic on Thursday was included in the Australian Open draw despite uncertainties over the defending champion's stay in the country.
Vaccine-sceptic Djokovic has admitted to entry form error, and outing while being Covid positive leading to question mark whether the Scott Morrison government would cancel his visa again.
Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is reported to be considering using his discretionary power to revoke visa of Djokovic, who is bidding for a record 21st key title.
"Top seed and nine-time Aus Open champion Novak Djokovic begins his title defence against Miomir Kecmanovic," the Grand Slam's official handle tweeted.
The men's and women's singles draws for the season's first grand slam tournament have been released at Melbourne Park.
Defending champion and nine time title winner Djokovic is top seed in the men's singles.
Rafael Nadal seeded sixth is the only other men's singles winner of the title who is included in the draw.
Women's world No.1 Ashleigh Barty is the sole Australian seed in the women's draw for the second consecutive year, while compatriot Alex de Minaur is the 32nd seed in the men's draw.
Defending and two-time women singles champion Naomi Osaka is seeded 13th.
The opening round of Australian Open 2022 commences on January 17.
