Australia cancels Djokovic’s visa

Melbourne, Jan 6 (UNI) Tennis ace Novak Djokovic was denied entry in Australia as his visa been cancelled after the world no 1 failed to meet the entry rules.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison tweeted: “Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled. Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules.
“Our strong border policies have been critical to Australia having one of the lowest death rates in the world from Covid, we are continuing to be vigilant,” he added.
The Australian Open defending champion announced on Tuesday that he will be heading to Australia to participate in the season’s first grand slam with an exemption permission.
"Non-citizens who do not hold a valid visa on entry or who have had their visa cancelled will be detained and removed from Australia," the Australian Border Force (ABF) was quoted as saying by BBC.
Morrison earlier said that "there should be no special rules" for Djokovic after the Serbian got Covid-19 vaccination "exemption permission" to compete at the upcoming grand slam tournament.
