Indian women's hockey team edged out by Belgium in FIH Pro League match

Antwerp, May 24 (UNI) The Indian women’s hockey team delivered a spirited performance but narrowly lost 2-1 to hosts Belgium in their FIH Pro League 2023-24 match at the Wilrijkse Plein here on Saturday.
India, ranked ninth in the world, faced a challenging first half against the fifth-ranked Belgians. Ambre Ballenghien opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a powerful strike from a penalty corner, followed by Vanessa Blockmans adding a second in the 20th minute after a deflected shot from Louise Versavel.
Despite the early setbacks, India showed resilience and fought back in the second half. Sangita Kumari reduced the deficit in the 34th minute, converting a chance created by Deepika’s deflected pass, beating Belgian goalkeeper Elodie Picard.
