Aus loses bid to delay Djoko's visa hearing

Aus loses bid to delay Djoko's visa hearing

Melbourne, Jan 9 (UNI) A bid by the Australian government to delay Novak Djokovic's appeal against deportation has been rejected by the judge overseeing the tennis player's case.
The government had requested to postpone Djokovic's court hearing until Wednesday, but it will begin as scheduled on Monday, BBC reported.
Djokovic was granted a medical exemption to compete in the Australian Open. However, the Australian Border Force (ABF) cancelled his visa and denied him to enter after the Serbian failed to meet the entry rules.
The world no.1 tennis player remained in immigration detention in Melbourne after being denied entry.
Waiting for final court's decision, Djokovic's lawyers have asked permission to move the Serbian from the immigration detention hotel, where he is currently being held, to a more suitable place of detention.
However, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said Djokovic would remain at the Park Hotel until a final decision was made.
"We have managed to make sure gluten-free food is delivered to him, as well as exercising tools, a laptop and a SIM card so that he is able to be in contact with his family," said Brnabic.
