ICC announces nominees for Men's ODI Player of Year award

Dubai, Dec 30 (UNI) Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan were on Thursday named among four players shortlisted for the ICC Men's ODI Player of the Year award.
The other two players are South Africa batter Janneman Malan and Ireland all-rounder Paul Stirling.
Although Babar played only six ODIs this year, he scored 405 runs at an average of 67.50 with two centuries. He made vital contributions in two series.
Pakistan captain was the second-highest run-scorer with 228 runs against South Africa. He also accumulated 177 runs in three games that Pakistan lost to England.
Shakib scored 277 runs in nine matches at an average of 39.57 with two fifties, and took 17 wickets at an average of 17.52 this year.
He delivered a Player of the Series-winning performance against West Indies in January 2021. He amassed 113 runs and scalped six wickets for Bangladesh.
Moreover, the Bangladesh all-rounder came to his team's rescue in the second ODI against Zimbabwe at Harare.
South Africa's Janneman Malan accumulated 509 runs in eight matches at an average of 84.83 with two centuries and two half-centuries. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer of 2021.
Having made his ODI debut in just February 2020, Malan has quickly become a vital cog of South Africa's ODI setup.
Paul Stirling of Ireland scored 705 runs in 14 matches at an average of 79.66 with three centuries and two half-centuries. He finished the year as the highest run-getter in ODIs.
