40.05 pc turn out till 1.00 pm TN LS polls : Sahoo

Chennai, Apr 19 (UNI) An estimated 40.05 per cent of the total 6.23 crore electorate
have cast their ballots till 1.00 p.m., as the single phase Polling to elect 39 members
to the18th Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu, which began on Friday morning, progressed
smoothly, amid tight security.
Talking to reporters, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said 40.05 per cent polling
was recorded as on 1300 hrs.
Dharmapuri recorded the highest percentage of 44.08 per cent till 1.00 pm and Chennai
Central the lowest at 32.31 per cent.
In the polling to the lone seat in Union Territory of Puducherry, about 45 per cent polling
was recorded.
In the bye-election to the Vilavancode Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu, 35.14 per cent
polling was registered till 1.00 pm.
Mr Sahoo said the polling was progressing peacefully and smoothly.
