Madurai (Tamil Nadu), April 10 (UNI) Five persons including four members of a family were killed on the spot in a terrible road accident near Tirumangalam on the Virudhunagar-Madurai four lane highway here on Wednesday.
An eight-year-old lost her twin sister and mother besides her grandparents. The incident occurred when a rashly driven sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit a two-wheeler and crashed into the median, then flipped in the air before crashing on the opposite side of service road at Sivarakottai.
Police said the deceased were identified as R.Kanagavel (62), his wife Krishnakumari (51), their daughter-in-law M.Nagajothi (28), her eight-year-old daughter Siva Athmika and the two-wheeler rider G.Pandi (52), a fruit vendor.
Five others travelling in the car, including Nagajothi’s twin daughter Siva Shri (8), son Siva Adhithya (5), their father K,Manikandan, who was driving the car, their kin Rathnasamy (64), Meena (55) were injured in the accident.
They were rescued from the mangled car and admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
The occupants of the car were returning to their home after offering prayers at a temple.
The Kallikudi police have registered a case.
