J&K CS for eradication of illicit cultivation, trade and consumption of drugs in J&K

Jammu, Nov 12 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Friday chaired the maiden meeting of the State Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre and outlined broad project contours for tackling drug menace in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
It was informed that Jammu and Kashmir lies in close vicinity to the golden crescent which produces 80% of the world opium and is considered as the prime source of illicit drug trade.
As per a consumption survey, Jammu and Kashmir has 6 lakh people affected by drug related issues which is approximately 4.6% population of the union territory of which 90% users are from the 17-33 age group.

Dhamtari (Chhattisgarh), Jan 27 (UNI) Two minors met a watery grave on Thursday – while playing – in the deep end of the Sheetala pond at Jugdehi village within Bakhara Police Station limits, police said.
The deceased were identified as Khomiya (4) and her friend Tannu Yadav. Kin searched for the girls and found the floating corpses, which were subsequently sent for autopsy.
