Severe heatwave expected over many parts of India till April 23: IMD

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted heatwave to severe heatwave over East India till April 23 and heat over parts of South Peninsular India for today.
According to IMD, “Heatwave conditions will prevail in isolated to some pockets of Odisha from April 19 to 21; Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal from April 19- 23; Bihar from April 20-23; Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana and interior Tamil Nadu today.”
Severe heatwave conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of Odisha on April 19 & 20 and Gangetic West Bengal during April 19- 22, the IMD said.
The weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places over Northeast India from April 19-22 and over Northwest India till April 23.
“Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and winds gusting upto 40 kmph is likely to prevail over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh from April 19 to 25,” the MeT department said.
“Light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from April 19-24,” the IMD said.
Scattered light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on April 19 and 20, it said.
Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, Goa, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh are also likely to witness isolated rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds till April 22.
On hot and humid weather, the IMD said, “These weather conditions are likely to prevail over Konkan, Goa, North Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra, Kutch, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Mahe, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till 23 April.”
“Warm night conditions very likely to prevail over Odisha and East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during the same period,” the IMD added.
