Agnipath scheme is an insult to Indian Army, youth: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday termed the Agnipath scheme as an insult to the Indian Army and the youth who dream of protecting the country and promised to cancel the scheme when the party comes to power.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha MP also claimed that the scheme was not a plan of the Indian Army but a plan of Narendra Modi’s office which was imposed on the Army.

Taking to social media platform X, Gandhi said, “The Agnipath scheme is an insult to the Indian Army and the brave youth who dream of protecting the country. This is not a plan of the Indian Army but a plan made in the Narendra Modi’s office, which has been imposed on the Army”.

Rahul said that martyrs cannot be treated in different way and every person who makes the supreme sacrifice for the sake of country should be given the status of a martyr.

He reiterated the party’s stand that as soon as the INDIA government is formed, the Agnipath scheme will be immediately cancelled and the old permanent recruitment process will be reimplemented.
