World's largest flag displayed near Pakistan border

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) The Indian Army unveilled a monumental 1400 kg national flag of size 225 feet by 150 feet at Jaisalmer Military Station on the occasion of 74th Army Day on Saturday.
This flag is a befitting tribute to the Indian heritage, as it is made up of hundred per cent Khadi material, a statement said.
The Monumental National Flag, which symbolises the collective spirit of Indian-ness and the heritage artisanal craft of Khadi, has been conceptualised and prepared by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises had said earlier.
"This National Flag, which is clearly visible from a distance of several kilometers, truly showcases the pride, aspiration and spirit of nationalism of our citizens. The flag hoisting was followed by national anthem and a military band display," the Indian Army said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said that the monumental national flag will be displayed at Longewala, which was the center stage of the historic battle between India and Pakistan in 1971.
This is the fifth public display of this national flag since its unveiling in Leh on October 2, 2021.
"Making of this flag has created nearly 3500 man hours of additional work for Khadi artisans and allied workers. A whopping 4500 meters of hand-spun, hand-woven Khadi cotton bunting has been used in making the flag, which covers the total area of 33,750 square feet. The Ashok Chakra in the flag measures a diameter of 30 feet," the Ministry said.
The event also commemorates the 75th year of India’s Independence being celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event was organised under strict protocols due to Covid-19.
