A playback singer and actress, Ketaki Mategaonkar now turns music director

Pune, Dec 23 (UNI) Budding playback singer and actress Ketaki Mategaonkar, who made her mark in films during her teenage, on Thursday announced that she has now stepped into a new role of a music composer.
Addressing a press conference here, she made an official announcement of ‘Mai, her first venture as a music composer and hoped for appreciation and support from the listeners of her renditions.

Speaking on the occasion, she asserted, "We have not had many women music composers in the past barring few exceptions like Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Khanna, Meena Khadilkar and Vaishali Samant in the recent times."
"This picture needs to change and I feel that women working in the field of music must try to get into music direction. Listeners will appreciate good compositions from the women composers," she told.
“Some of the best names from the world of music including Shankar Mahadevan, Suresh Wadkar, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar who is one of my Gurus in music and my mother Suvarna Mategaonkar have shown confidence in my compositions and have sung for my first album. This gesture from these veterans has comes as a blessing and has given me a lot of encouragement," she added.
The ‘Mai’ album would have nine songs penned by the composer’s great-grandmother. The songs will be released on a monthly basis on Ketaki’s official Youtube channel.
