Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (UNI) The Odisha Assembly on the inaugural day of the winter session on Thursday witnessed ruckus over the lady Archana Nag honey trap case.
As the house reassembled at 1700 hours to place the supplementary budget for 2022-23, Congress legislative party leader Narshingha Mishra rising on a point of order, said the
Congress party has demanded a SIT probe into the Archana Nag case in which several
political leaders of the ruling party, businessmen and bureaucrats were involved.
Mishra said it was most unfortunate that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is keeping mum on the issue, adding the Chief Minister has no right to continue his post. The Congress party, he said, demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister on moral ground.
BJP Chief whip Mohan Majhi also raised the issue and alleged that the Chief Minister is shielding his ministers and MLAs involved in the Archana Nag sex scandal.
Majhi also said several IAS and IPS officers besides businessmen were involved in the sex scandal and questioned the silence of the Chief Minister over the issue.
The people of Odisha, he said, wanted to know the names of the ruling party leaders involved in
the honey trap case and demanded a statement on the issue from the government.
He too demanded that the Chief Minister should step down from the post owning moral responsibility.
The Opposition Congress and BJP members then rushed to the well of the house and raised slogans against the government.
Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh tried to pacify the situation stating that the all party meeting had decided that only the supplementary budget will be placed in the house on the inaugural day of the winter session of the house which commenced on Thursday.
Arukh requested the agitating opposition members to go back to their seats and assured them that he would allow them to raise the issue on Friday.
But the Opposition did not pay any heed to the Speaker’s request and continued their slogans shouting inside the well .
State Panchayat Raj Minister Pradeep KumarAmat in the absence of Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari, laid the supplementary budget amidst chaos in the house.
The Speaker then adjourned the house at 1710 hours till 10 30 hours on Friday.
