Jalpaiguri, Apr 7 (UNI) In a span of three days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the face of the BJP's election fortune in 2024, is scheduled to address a party rally in this West Bengal's tea belt district afternoon in support of Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha candidate Jayanta Kumar Roy.
"This afternoon, I will be among the people of Jalpaiguri to address a rally. There is outstanding support in @BJP4Bengal’s favor. The people of West Bengal are tired of the TMC's corruption and poor governance. Only the BJP can fulfill their dreams." Modi said this on his social media post ahead of his second visit since April 4.
Tea is the main cash crop for Jalpaiguri, which makes a major contribution to the beverage, both domestically and internationally.
The district has recently witnessed a massive tornado-type storm that ravaged hundreds of homes, rendered many homeless, and killed five people, including a woman, on March 31.
West Bengal's northernmost three districts—Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri—go to the hustings on April 19, the first of seven phases of voting for all 42 LS seats in the state.
Incidentally, the saffron brigade won seven out of eight seats in the north Bengal region in the 2019 general election.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his maiden election rally from Cooch Behar on April 4.
Modi had assured the people of West Bengal that the perpetrators, especially of the Sandeshkhali, will be punished severely and appealed to the electorate to vote as a leader without fear.
Since his utterance accusing the ruling TMC of safeguarding the perpetrators of the women in the North 24 Parganas and spreading lies about the CAA, TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee, and also the CM, has been targeting the PM as well as the saffron brigade.
Union Minister Nitish Pramanik is contesting from Cooch Behar and Monoj Tigga from Alipurduar seats, respectively, in north Bengal districts.
Party sources said the PM had expressed his grief about the loss of lives in the tornado and assured necessary help to come forward from the party's karyakartas for the distressed people in Jalpaiguri.
