"CSIR-IICT and BHEL partners to advance clean fuel technology: MoU signed on CO2 to DME"

Hyderabad, April 19 (UNI) The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Corporate R&D have forged a partnership to develop technology for capturing and converting carbon dioxide (CO2) to Dimethyl Ether (DME) through direct catalytic conversion.

This collaboration, under the Department of Science & Technology's initiative on Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU), aims to harness innovative technologies to combat carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions, a statement said on Friday.

The project, funded by the DST, focuses on utilising captured CO2 to produce DME, a clean fuel that can be blended with LPG. This initiative aligns with the global shift towards cleaner energy sources and contributes to India's efforts to address climate change and ensure energy security.

The strategic partnership between CSIR-IICT and BHEL signifies a commitment to driving impactful research and developing scalable solutions in the field of clean fuel technology. By leveraging their collective expertise, both organizations seek to accelerate India's transition towards a low-carbon economy.

Through collaborative innovation and knowledge exchange, CSIR-IICT and BHEL aspire to create sustainable solutions that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also promote the use of clean and renewable energy sources.
