NC will not beg for elections: Omar Abdullah

NC will not beg for elections: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, June 6 (UNI) National Conference vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that his party will not beg for elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Election Commission should dare tell why they are not holding elections here”, the former chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir told newsmen outside his party headquarters here.
He said that election is the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir which has been taken away from them.
“We also have self-respect", he said and added "the Election Commission should answer.. we want to hear from them what are their constraints and what is the pressure on them that they are delaying holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir".
He said “the Chief Election Commission had said during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir that there is a vacuum that has to be filled, now he should muster up courage to say what is the pressure on him... there is something that sounds fishy."
In response to a question, Omar said, "the situation here is not good. There is militancy in the areas from where the militancy was cleared and now their own people are seeking security."
“The G20 Summit in Kashmir was held to cover up the situation, but we know the reality that it takes 40 minutes to travel the distance of five minutes” he said.
He said that students are not reaching school on time and patients lose lives in the ambulances.
The former chief minister said that elections are the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "If they get great satisfaction from taking away this right.. that is fine, he added”.
