Monsoon advances to most parts of Andaman Nicobar Islands

Pune, May 16 (UNI) In view of strengthening of southwesterlies in the lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity and persistent cloudiness over the area; southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of south Bay of Bengal, most part of Andaman Nicobar Islands and Andaman sea on Monday. Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, entire Andaman Sea, Andaman Islands and some parts of eastcentral Bay of Bengal during next 2-3 days.
Yesterday, Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions observed in most parts over south Haryana, Delhi; in many parts over south Uttar Pradesh; in some parts over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan and Punjab and at isolated parts over east Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh. Heat wave conditions observed in many parts over Vidarbha and at isolated pockets over southwest Bihar and Jharkhand.
Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1 or more) at most places over Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, at many places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Punjab; at a few places over Bihar; at isolated places over west Rajasthan; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over west Uttar Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places over west Madhya Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Vidarbha, Gujarat Region, at many places over Jharkhand; at a few places over Odisha, Saurashtra, Kutch and Madhya Maharashtra. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep; at a few places over Rayalaseema and at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam; and below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places over Assam, Meghalaya, Andaman, Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe and south Interior Karnataka, at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 49.0°C was reported at Banda (east Uttar Pradesh) over the plains of the country.

Pune, April 25 (UNI) Day temperatures were markedly above normal(5.1°C or more) at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim; at isolated places over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Assam and Meghalaya; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe; at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana. These were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Vidarbha and east Madhya Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 43.7°C was reported at Anantapur
(Rayalaseema) over the country.
