Mizoram-Myanmar border closure looms as Assam Rifles inform villagers

Aizawl, April 26 (UNI) The Ministry of Home Affairs is yet to officially inform the Mizoram government of the closure of the Mizoram-Myanmar border, while Assam Rifles personnel have informed villagers along the border areas that the international border will be closed on May 1, a senior home department official said on Friday.
State Home Commissioner H. Lalengmawia said that they have not received any official communication from the center and that the state government should have been informed if the MHA ordered the closure of the 404-km-long Mizoram-Myanmar international border on May 1, which is hardly five days ahead.
Reports from Myanmar border Champhai district said that leaders of Zote, Ngur, Ruantlang, and Hmunhmeltha villages situated along the Myanmar border, as well as sub-headquarters of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) of Champhai district and leaders of Champhai South Joint Village Councils and Champhai North Joint Village Councils, were called by the Assam Rifles for a meeting at the Assam Rifles camp in Champhai on April 23.
