Mizoram grapples with schools without students

Aizawl, Mar 16 (UNI) Several government middle and upper primary schools in Mizoram continue to operate without students while teachers remain posted, raising concerns over the state’s school rationalisation efforts.
According to state School Education Minister Vanlalthlana, five government schools currently have no students but retain teachers, while 21 others have more teachers than students. Additionally, 13 schools have an equal number of students and teachers.
In a written reply to a question from Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Ramthanmawia, Vanlalthlana revealed that Lawngtlai district, which borders Myanmar and Bangladesh, has five Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) schools with more teachers than students, and another five where the number of students matches that of teachers.
