Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) The activists of the Congress party will take to the streets across the state on September 19 (Thursday), demanding to take action against the ruling Mahayuti alliance party leaders for allegedly making controversial statement against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Nana Patole on Wednesday.
"In the past few days, the leaders of BJP and their allied parties have been issuing threats to assassinate or physically harm the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. This is extremely serious. In this regard, the Congress party national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, has written a letter to the Prime Minister. Still, no action has been taken against those issuing these threats," he said.
Also, Shiv Sena-Shinde party's local goon, MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, has announced a reward for anyone who chops off Rahul Gandhi's tongue, and BJP MP Anil Bonde has made a statement about burning his tongue, he said.
"These are grave threats, and the government should take strict action against them," he demanded.
"The statements made by Shiv Sena's local goon MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, a former BJP MLA from Delhi and a minister in Narendra Modi's government are highly condemnable. The fact that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are silent on this suggests they support such statements," the MPCC chief alleged.
"Rahul Gandhi's grandmother, former prime minister Indira Gandhi, and his father, Rajiv Gandhi, were both assassinated. Everyone knows this. Are these threats to Rahul Gandhi now being made with the same intent," he questioned.
Patole assured that the Congress workers will not let a single hair of Rahul Gandhi be harmed.
Therefore, the Congress workers will take to the streets across the state on Thursday (tomorrow) to protest against the Taliban-like mindset of BJP leaders threatening Rahul Gandhi, he added.
