Ludhiana West bypolls: FIR registered for publishing opinion polls

Chandigarh, June 18 (UNI) An FIR has been registered by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in connection with an opinion poll published ahead of June 19 Ludhiana by-election, official sources said on Wednesday.


A statement by the CEO said that opinion polls were published by online news channels like Turn
Times, Jan Hitaishi, The City Headlines and E News Punjab during the restricted period.


After receiving complaints about the violation, an FIR was registered under section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and under section 223 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023.


"Further investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against any individual or entity found guilty of violating the Election Commission's directives", the statement said.
