Kerala: Man gets life imprisonment for twin murders

Kannur, Feb 27 (UNI) A district sessions court in Kerala has sentenced to life the key accused - a CPI(M) worker - in the 21-year-old twin murders of a BJP woman activist and a jeep driver.
Thalassery District Session Judge K T Nizar Ahamed sentenced 42-yea-old M Arshad to life imprisonment besides slapping a fine of Rs one lakh on him under section 302 (murder), read with 34 (common intention) of IPC.
The court also ruled that in default of payment of the fine, he would further undergo simple imprisonment for six months. Besides, the court also sentenced Arshad to rigorous imprisonment for three years and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 27 (1) of the Arms Act and under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) r/w 34 of IPC to Arshad. All the sentences would run concurrently.
