Jammu-Reasi sees above 10.39 pc voter turnout till 9 am

Jammu, April 26 (UNI) In the first two hours of polling across Jammu Parliamentary Constituency on Friday, it was Akhnoor that saw maximum voter turnout so far in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections as 10.39 per cent of nearly 18 lakh voters cast their votes, the office of Chief Election Officer, J&K, said.
As per the updates issued by the election office, the lowest has been in Ramgrah (SC) with 1.53 percent, while Gulabgarh (ST) recorded 13.53 percent, Reasi 14.13 percent, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi 12.71percent, Samba 8.56 percent, Vijaypur 12.29 percent, Bishnah (SC) 11.44 percent, Suchetgarh (SC) 5.67 percent, R S Pura-Jammu South 8.17 percent, Bahu 10.46 percent, Jammu East 10.26, Nagrota 12.27 percent, Jammu West 9.37 percent, Jammu North 10.93 percent, Marh (SC) 12.31 percent, Akhnoor (SC) 14.24 percent, Chhamb 10.52 percent and Kalakote has registered 11 percent till 9 am.
Long queues of voters, especially the women and first time voters, attired in traditional outfits, were seen thronging to their nearest polling stations.
Earlier in the day, the polling began with enthusiasm, especially among the new voters. Across various assembly segments of the parliamentary constituency, voters were seen standing in queues much ahead of the scheduled time for polling.
The Election Commission has put in place all necessary arrangements to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
The polling began at 7 am in all 2,416 polling stations across the constituency. Mock poll was also conducted successfully in all the polling stations.
More than 17.80 lakh voters on the Jammu Parliamentary seat will decide the fate of 22 candidates, who are in the fray.
The border residents to play a key role as the constituency will witness direct fight between the Congress and the BJP candidates.
Out of the 18 Assembly segments of Jammu constituency, nine segments have votes in border areas, both on IB and LoC including Ramgarh and Samba Assembly segments of Samba district, Bishnah, Suchetgarh, Ranbir Singh Pura, Marh, Akhnoor and Chammb of district Jammu and Sunderbani-Kalakote Assembly segment of Rajouri district.
The total 17,80,835 voters include 9,21,095 male and 8,59,712 female voters besides 28 third gender electorates.
