Srinagar, Feb 9 (UNI) Meteorological office forecast of widespread light to moderate Snowfall, Rain in Jammu and Kashmir with chances of Heavy Snowfall over higher reaches on Thursday.
Currently Rain, Snow started in North Kashmir including Kupwara, ski resort of Gulmarg and other parts while the weather is overcast in rest of the places including Srinagar and Jammu city, the MeT office said.
It said the weather will remain cloudy with light Rain/Snow at scattered places of J&K on Friday and thereafter it will continue for the next week.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.8 degree Celsius on Thursday against minus 0.1 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 1.2 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season. It also received traces during the past 24 hours.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded at minus 0.8 degree Celsius against minus 1.8 degree Celsius a day ago. It was 0.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the year.
The temperature further improves at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, recorded at minus 4.2 degree Celsius on Thursday against 6.5 degree Celsius recorded on Wednesday. It was 2.5 degree Celsius above normal for the tourist resort during this period of the season. It also received 0.4mm of rainfall and 0.1 Cms snowfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 2.4 degree Celsius against minus 7.6 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 3.8 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season for the valley of shepherds.
Kokernag had a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius which was 1.4 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.
The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of 2.3 degree Celsius against minus 1.9 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. It was 4.3 degrees above normal during this period of the season, MeT office said.
