Gorakhpur to host 3-day IFFRS from Thursday

Lucknow, Mar 19 (UNI) Gorakhpur is set to host a three-day International Festival of Films on Religion and Spirituality (IFFRS) from Thursday at Yogi Raj Baba Gambhirnath auditorium, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that the festival will showcase films that explore humanity's connection to the divine, bringing together filmmakers, scholars and cinephiles to celebrate stories that inspire and enlighten. Actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan, along with renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, will attend select screenings during the festival.
The event will open with the screening of Shades of Uttar Pradesh, followed by Varanasi – The City of Nirvana, setting the tone for three days of immersive cinematic experiences. Entry to the festival is free, offering audiences access to a curated selection of iconic films centred on religion and spirituality.
The first day's highlights include screenings of Aghori, Amrit Manthan, Dashavtaar, Buddha Circuit, and Untold History – Kaal Bhairav. On the second day, acclaimed filmmaker, producer and author Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri will conduct a masterclass on film making. The day will also feature screenings of Naimish, Mahakumbh and India's Grand Festival Durga Puja.
The final day will see casting director and producer Parag Mehta leading a masterclass on the art of acting. Screenings for the day include Discovery Varanasi, Mathura Vrindavan, Overall UP and UP – Home of the Taj. The festival will conclude with an award ceremony recognising outstanding entries.
Minister for Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh emphasised the significance of cinema in portraying themes of religion and spirituality. "There is no better medium than films to reflect on these profound themes. This festival will help promote the spiritual essence of Uttar Pradesh; a land known globally for its religious heritage. Hosting it in Gorakhpur, a city deeply associated with Guru Gorakhnath and other saints, makes it even more special," he said.

IFFRS 2025 aims to offer a platform for meaningful storytelling that transcends cultures and beliefs, reaffirming cinema’s role as a bridge between the spiritual and the artistic.
