Fifties by top-order help SRH post record-breaking IPL total

Fifties by top-order help SRH post record-breaking IPL total

Hyderabad, Mar 27 (UNI) The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put up an incredible batting display against the Mumbai Indians (MI) by posting 277/3, a new record for the highest-ever total in IPL history, surpassing the previous record of 263/5 set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
Additionally, it ranked as the third-highest total in all men's T20 games, in the 8th match of IPL 2024 held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Wednesday.
Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23 3x4s 7x6s), and Travis Head played blistering knocks, each scoring half-centuries to propel SRH to this mammoth total.
Head started the onslaught with a blistering 62 runs off just 24 balls, with 9 boundaries and 3 sixes, followed by Abhishek who scored the fastest half-century of the ongoing competition in just 16 balls. Klassen, not to be outdone, remained unbeaten on 80 off 34 balls.
MI's bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with many short balls being bowled and conceding numerous extras. Their bowling changes didn't yield desired results, and their fielding performance was subpar.
SRH's innings saw Head taking charge early on, capitalizing on the loose deliveries and being dropped by Tim David on five early in his innings. Abhishek continued the onslaught, smashing boundaries at will. Klaasen joined the party later, showcasing his boundary-hitting prowess.
The debutant pacer for MI, Kwena Maphaka, had a tough night, being taken for plenty of runs. He ended up with figures of 0/66 in his four overs, making it the most expensive spell by a debutant in IPL history.
SRH's innings were characterized by a flurry of boundaries and sixes, with each batsman contributing significantly to the record-breaking total.
Brief Scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 277/3 in 20 overs (Heinrich Klaasen 80*, Abhishek Sharma 63; Piyush Chawla 1-34, Hardik Pandya 1-46)
Mumbai Indians: Yet to bat
