Rammstein: 'Zeit' review – Another groovy trip to a familiar world

New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) German industrial metal veterans Rammstein are back, with their latest offering 'Zeit', bringing in the same grandeur and theatrics that we know and love them for.
When it comes to Rammstein, you always know what you are in for, crushing riffs, deep German vocals, synths, really simple drums and a whole lot of theatricality and some messaging.
For anyone who has ever listened to Rammstein, it is easy for them to separate the band from any other because while Rammstein may not sound like others, their sound is so iconic that they simply cannot be confused for any other band even if the German was discarded.
With that being said, “Zeit” is an example of how consistency and even homogeneity in music is not really a bad thing when done right, because that is the trademark of every Rammstein album and they don’t seem to be stopping any time soon.
While there is an ominous goth rock sort of synth in the background and a bit of an operatic flair, “Zeit” is not anything brand new, just the same sense of grandeur reinvented. Kicking off with groove laden “Armee Der Triste”, Rammstein’s flair for the dramatic comes in with the title track which packs in a melancholic atmosphere.
From there it simply continues whether it is “Schwarz” or the more dramatic “Giftig” as the band begins to flex their muscles being as they are the veterans of Neun Deuche Harte (New German Hardness).
Caution and predictability are Rammstein’s game and they play it well as they bring and polish their simple repetitive music formula to near perfection.
The album apart from their standard industrial metal sound also packs a strong influence from 80s post punk blended with hard rock and electro pop which makes this release only more ridiculous and yet so fun at the same time.
The production here is huge and full like any other Rammstein album before, with the underlying emotional tones and their relative thematic complexity being brought out well through sampling, as well as with the textures of the album which are easily able to balance between the various emotional states from dark to light, negative to positive, and melancholic to almost upbeat with every transition being smooth and that much more enjoyable.
Nearly 30 years into their career and the German metal veterans are as ambitious and daring as ever as they swing by this delicious piece of theatrical groove laden electro pop landscape of a grand and depressing industrial metal.
