Legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic 'Anand' to get a remake after 51 years

Mumbai, May 19 (UNI) Legendary director Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1971 Bollywood classic “Anand” which has gained a cult status in the country is poised for a remake after 51 years.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the announcement. He wrote “OFFICIAL REMAKE OF 'ANAND' ANNOUNCED... #Anand - one of the most iconic films starring #RajeshKhanna and #AmitabhBachchan, directed by #HrishikeshMukherjee - will be remade by the original producer - #NCSippy’s grandson #SameerRajSippy - along with producer #VikramKhakhar.”
The Bollywood classic remake starring Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan will be helmed by Sameer Raj Sippy, who is the grandson of the 1971's original producer NC Sippy, and Vikram Khakhar.
Regarding the remake, Sippy said that stories such as “Anand” need to be told to the current generation once again regarding their appeal. "Keeping in mind the sensibilities of the original film and the emotions attached, I felt the current generation needs to be retold the many stories that are so relevant today and especially when there is a great appetite for good content," the producer said in a statement on Thursday.
Being such a legendary piece of cinema and the negative reception that Bollywood has lately been getting, most netizen’s responses to the announcement of the remake were mostly negative.
A Twitter user wrote, "Anand was a classic made by a master director with an excellent star cast and amazing music. Remaking it is a bad idea. I don’t think we have any current actors who can even come close to Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan."
Another user wrote “Why this should be remade btw? It is almost impossible to reenact a few characters i.e. Dilip Saheb as Devdas, Rajesh Khanna Ji as Anand, Amitabh in DON & Dewar, Amjad Khan Saheb as Gabbar Singh, and may be a couple more characters. These should be preserved. “
A netizen wrote “No one can match #Anand .The characters were amazing and all actors did such an amazing job. How will you find another Rajesh Khanna , Johnny Walker ,Lalita Pawar ,Ramesh Deo? How will anyone make and replace those soulful songs ?Please don’t spoil the film”.
Another person wrote “Classics should not be touched for remake.”
Others still wrote “#anand shouldn’t not be remade! Leave the #classics alone,” and, “No please”. A Twitter user also seemed worried about the next remake, as they wrote, “Now they are going to ruin a masterpiece like anand. what’s next,sholay? You know what i am not giving them more ideas.”
Made in 1971 by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, “Anand" stars Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Sumita Sanyal, Ramesh Deo, Seema Deo. The film is the emotional story of a cynical doctor and a cheerful cancer patient and the friendship between the two.
