Srinagar, Oct 4 (UNI) A gun fight has raged between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district Tuesday night just hours after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar, officials said.
The Home Minister who is on a three day visit to Jammu and Kashmir arrived in Srinagar after addressing a public rally at Rajouri and is scheduled to address another public meeting in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Police said the gun battle erupted at village Drach in south Kashmir during a cordon and search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants.
“As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gun fight”, a security official said.
Police and security forces are on the job, further details shall follow.
