Hyderabad, Dec 8 (UNI) The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) which was formed to achieve separate statehood for Telangana 21-years ago, has now become Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The ruling TRS party emerged as a national party with the party’s extended state general body passing a unanimous resolution changing the party name to BRS on October 5, 2022 and the party had submitted a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 6 for the name change.
The ECI issued a letter approving the name change of TRs to BRs on Thursday.
With ECI’s clearance for the party change, TRS Supremo and Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has decided to organize the formation programme of BRS at the auspicious time of 1.20 PM on Friday at Telangana Bhavan , where he would sign the official letter received from ECI as a reply accepting the order and send it to the EC.
Later, CM KCR will hoist the BRS flag at the inaugural ceremony.
The CM asked the state party Executive Committee members, party district Presidents, Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs to attend the programme in Telangana Bhavan.
As a national party, BRS hopes to contest 100 parliamentary constituencies, to begin with, including in parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka that are bordering Telangana.
Two days after BRS formal launch on October 5, TRS working President and Minister K.T.Rama Rao (KTR) said the prime focus of TRS’ national avatar BRS is the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and not assembly elections in other states.
Mr KTR spelt out the road ahead for the pink party’s national ambitions with neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka being the first hunting grounds.
The name change by TRS President KCR, Mr.KTR asserted was not about politics of power but a means to bring about real change at the national level by replicating Telangana Model of development.
In an informal chat with the media in October, Mr KTR said in Karnataka, the BRS would contest in alliance with JD(S) in the next LS polls.
He also said that KCR has a clear vision on how to take BRS forward
