Hyderabad, Dec 8 (UNI) Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday formally accepted the change of name of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
In a letter to TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Secretariat of the Election Commission of India Sr.Pr Secretary K N Bhar, referring to the letter of TRS General Secretary J Santosh Kumar on October 5, 2022, said, the Commission has accepted to the request for change in the name of your party from 'Telangana Rashtra Samiti to Bharat Rashtra Samithi.'
The necessary notification in this regard will be issued in due course, Bhar added.
Accordingly, KCR has directed party leaders to make arrangements for a ceremony at 1.20 pm here on Friday, to formally change the party’s name to BRS.
Earlier, TRS has conveyed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) about launching the National Party 'Bharat Rashtra Samithi' at its General Body Meeting held at Telangana Bhavan here on October 5.
Party General Secretary J Santosh Kumar in a letter to ECI earlier said 'Telangana Rashtra Samithi in its State General Body meeting dated 05.10.2022 has passed a resolution to change the name of the Party from Telangana Rashtra Samithi to Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
To that effect, necessary amendments to the party Constitution have also been made in the same meeting.
However, as per the ECI rules for recognising any party as National Party the Commission would consider only if it fulfills any one of the three conditions like --- the party win 2% of seats in the Lok Sabha (11 seats) from at least three different states, at a general election to Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly, the party polls 6% of votes in any four or more states and in addition it wins four Lok Sabha seats and the party must be recognised as a state party in four states.
At present, the TRS only has a strong presence in Telangana and it is in power in the state.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which was founded on April 27, 2001 by K. Chandasekhar Rao (known as KCR), with a single-point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital, was changed into Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), a national party to foray into national politics ahead of next Assembly election and later Lok Sabha election.
TRS has been instrumental in carrying forth a sustained agitation for the granting of statehood to Telangana.
BRS portal was updated and mentioned that its party President was K.Chandrashekhar Rao followed by Chairperson ( TRS working President and Minister K T Rama Rao , son of KCR), General Secretary ( Rajya Sabha MP, Joginapally Santosh Kumar, the nephew of Chief Minister KCR ).
The ideology was – Regionalism; Populism; Federalism and Neoliberalism.
The party’s other wings titles also changed including the Student wing changed to Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (BRSV) instead of Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi and Women's wing to Bharat Rashtra Samithi Mahila (BRSM).
